Blackhawks feather pattern

Hi everyone. This is my notes on how to create the feathers that I use on my Blackhawks headbands. To start I used the birch leaf pattern and  made some modifications.

http://mrsgreene.info/2011/01/crochet-patterns-oak-birch-and-elm-leaves/

What you will need:
Crochet hook (any size that works with your yarn. gauge isn't important)
Yarn in red, green, yellow, orange, white, and blue
needle
scissors

Gauge isn't important for this project but I used a size G hook and worsted weight yarn to make the ones pictured. You can easily adjust the hook and yarn to make them bigger/smaller.

To start i chained 3 and then sc in the second chain from the hook and in the next chain so i had 2 sc

chain 1 and turn
sc in the first stitch then a sc increase in the second stitch (3 sc total)
chain 1 and turn
Next 1sc, sc increase, 1sc ( 4 total)

From here i followed the birch leaf pattern from row 3 down

After you have finished you want to sc around the whole thing. This will give it a smoother, more feather look. 3 sc in the top point

Next I just took the second color and slip stitched the inside edge around and then left a long tail for sewing in the other inside details on. See photos below

Start in the bottom center

Insert hook in next space.  there are holes or spaces between the stitches so that is where I am placing my hook

Finally just pull a loop through and make a slip stitch.  Continue around and up the center. Leave a long tail for sewing on the rest of the details.

Finally stitch the remaining details.

Finally for the circle I just did a magic circle and put 6 sc in the middle with red
Switch to green and do 2 sc in each stitch.
Last row do a 2sc in first stitch 1 sc in next all the way around.

When done sew everything together.  I recommend starting with the orange one and work them in order.  this way you can make sure you fan them out and get them positioned one by one.
I hope this was helpful.  Any questions feel free to ask.

  2. Hello,

This is the pattern I used for the headband in the picture.

It’s really easy pattern to follow. If you didn’t want to purchase this pattern, I’m sure you could use any headband pattern. I didn’t design this headband pattern so that’s why I didn’t post the pattern on this post. Hopefully this helps.

Thank you for checking out my feather pattern.
